And they both marched out of the door of Middlesbrough house..........and promptly got knocked down by a car.
THE LADY: Oh dear! You just walked off the pavement without looking.
PASSENGER: What do you think you’re doing are you trying to get yourself killed
THE LADY: Are you ok?
VAUGHAN: No I am not. You ran over my toe. It hurts!
THE LADY: Sorry. Let me give you a lift to the hospital.
VAUGHAN: The hospital is attached to this house but I think I’m OK
VAUGHAN: (WHISPERS ASIDE) Henry. Why do we not ask this fine lady if she has heard of us?
BALCKOW: (WHISPERS TO VAUGHAN) Yes. That's a good idea Vaughan.
(OUT LOUD)
Madam, have you ever heard of two fine gentlemen called Henry Balckow and John Vaughan?
THE LADY: Yes I Have . I’ve just been on an Aging Better historical walk of this area so I can help! Yes, they were two indurialists who were responsible for developing Middlesbrough and putting the town on the map.
(VISUAL) IPHONE IN HAND
NARRATOR: Henry Balckow noticed that the lady keeps looking at her book whilst speaking to them. The book had a glow to it. Balckow thought this was very eerie.
VAUGHAN: Madam what is that?
THE LADY: It is an Iphone of course!!
BALCKOW: Madam, we are interested in finding out about Balckow and Vaughan's legacy in Middlesbrough.
Op
THE LADY: Certainly. Do you see that bridge over there? That is a famous landmark of Middlesbrough and was made out of steel. The famous 'Transporter Bridge'. Known around the world. Why don't you take a trip up to the top of it via the newly installed lift? And also there is a plaque just behind you on this house that you have just come out of. It is similar to the one that is on the Transporter Bridge.
NARRATOR: Balckow and Vaughan looked excitedly at each other when setting eyes on the bridge for the first time. The size and shapeof it was astounding. The two men thought it was best not to say too much about who they were but the old- fashioned dress caused their newfound friend to look at them with suspicion. The lady and her friend Alice nudged each other.
ALICE: They must be tour guides or something.
NARRATOR: Indeed both parties were looking seriously at the way each were dressed. Women wearing trousers? What happened to the beautiful dresses that they used to wear?
BALCKOW: Women wearing trousers! What was that box on wheels that (whispering nearly ran us down? loudlyto Vaughan)
THE LADY: This is not a box. It's a Nissan Micra car! I suppose you have a bigger and better one!
VAUGHAN: No we haven't. Don't tell me that this took over from the horses and carriages?
NARRATOR: The ladies looked at each other whilst scratching their heads in wonder.
NARRATOR: The lady starts to tap on her little glowing box whilst Balckow and Vaughan look on in amazement. Pictures of a blue round-shaped plaque appear on the screen.
THE LADY: Do you see that blue plaque on the wall of the house that you have just come out of?
BALCKOW AND VAUGHAN: Yes
THE LADY The plaque states who lived there and the dates and a brief history. There are about seven of these plaques around this area of Middlesbrough detailing the legacy of B & V. If you buy us a coffee in the Customs house over the road I could print off a list of them for you.
BALCKOW: We would love to dear lady but we have come out without any money!
The ladies both looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders simultaneously and said....
ALICE & THE LADY: Typical!!
THE LADY: That's ok I will pay. It's the least I can do for nearly knocking you down!

NARRATOR: They all went off to the Customs House down the road. Had a coffee/tea while the lady and the library assistant sorted some print outs of the seven blue plaques in the area.
THE LADY: As you two gentlemen have no money my friend Alice and I will be glad to transport you both around the area to view the places if you like. We could start with the area situated towards the river. It was the site of B&V's first iron works. It is now the site of the Transporter Bridge.
BALCKOW: That would be wonderful dear lady. Thank you very much.
